File extension got corrupt and unable to open any files

Question:  I have a PC with windows client OS and it was effected by virus and i was unable to open any files. Now i have cleared the virus with some anitvirus software and now the system is clean. But, i am not able to open any files and the file type icon shows unknown.

Backup of your profile files which will be under c:\documents and settings\\Desktop, my documents, favorites folders OR you can rename your profile under C:\Documents and Settings\ folder and try to login with your id. A new local profile will be created. You should be able to open the files now with new profile. Note: copy the data from your backup.


    Second point, Is that your files shows a unkown file type. Example, the .txt file should be in Notepad icon. If Not, then goto Tools menu in windows Explorer, click on Folder options-> Folder options-> click on File types tab and check the extension and corresponding file type and click on change and select the respective application.
