Rule "Performance counter registry hive consistency" failed error

I am trying to install SQL 2008 on Windows 2003 server with SP2. In the initial stage while the pre-requisties test, i see one test fails and we can't go further

Rule "Performance counter registry hive consistency" failed.

The performance counter registry hive is corrupted. To continue, you must repair the performance counter registry hive. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956

Any suggestions?

    I have got this error while doing SQL 2008 install on Citrix server running on Windows 2003 SP2.

    To fix this issue, you need to create a DWORD key in registry.

    Create a Dword key “Disable Performance Counter” and set the value to 0.
    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib

    Note: No need to restart. Proceed with SQL install by running the setup.exe
