Not able to ping server with Hostname or DNS name

We were having issue as suddenly servers (Windows 2008 R2) were not able to ping with servername but we were able to ping with ip address and able to connect/rdp to the server. These were VM servers.

We checked nslookup command and servername resolves the ip. There were no changes done in network or in DNS.

We restarted the servers but no luck. We tried ipconfig /registerdns also but no luck.

Got update from VM team to restart "Network Location Awareness (NLA)" service and we were able to ping with hostname/servername, which fixed the issue.

On few servers after restarting this service also no luck, we updated "vm tools" and restarted the server which fixed the issue.

As I am not sure what went wrong on VM side and how this solution fixed the issue.

Give it a try :)...

Command to find World Wide Name (WWN) for a fibre channel HBA

There is a tool FCINFO.exe available for download from Microsoft Download web site. It works on Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows 2000 systems and comes in a form of MSI package for x86, IA64 or x64 platforms.

Running the Fibre Channel Information Tool at a command line with no arguments will give basic information (including WWN) about the installed host bus adapters (HBAs):

C:\>fcinfo

There are 2 adapters:
com.qlogic-QLA2100/2110-0: PortWWN: 21:00:00:e0:8b:08:95:df \\.\Scsi2:
com.qlogic-QLA2200/2200-1: PortWWN: 10:00:00:00:c9:30:d0:17 \\.\Scsi3:
